Acetylsalicylicacidproducesanantiplateleteffectbyinhibitingtheproductionofthromboxane,whichundernormalcircumstancespromotesplateletbindingtoeachotherandtheinjurysiteofthedamagedwallsofbloodvessels.

AdditionofASAControltobloodsamplesleadstoreducedaggregationintheASPItestandtheCOLtest. Uponadditiontothebloodsample,theplateletcyclooxygenasepathwayisblockedandthecyclooxygenase-dependentMultiplatetests,ASPItestandCOLtestareinhibited.Thisallowstheassessmentofanabnormalresponseinthesetests.
