Background:

Rivaroxaban(Xarelto®)isanoraldirectfactorXainhibitordrug.Itisprescribedbyahealthcareproviderandcan:

• reducetheriskofbloodclotsandstrokeinindividuals whohavenonvalvularatrialfibrillation;
• treatdeepveinthrombosis(DVT)andpulmonaryembolism(PE);and
• reducetheriskofDVTandPEinindividuals afterhiporkneereplacementsurgery.

Inmostcases,rivaroxabandoesnotrequireroutinemonitoring.IttypicallyprolongsclottingtestssuchasPT/INRandaPTTsoitisbestmeasuredusinganti-Xachromogenicassays.NotethatthiscontrolisforresearchuseonlyintheUSandCanada.
